nagarjuna rummy

Production on Nagarjuna’s next movie began in late summer. The plot was rumored to center around Nagarjuna’s character being a card shark and the stills and wallpapers that were released on his birthday seemed to confirm that. The only thing that was missing was the title and now they seemed to have zeroed in on it – Rummy.

This movie marks the debut of first-time director Kiran, who’s also handling the story, screenplay and dialogues. Sarvesh Murari is the cinematographer and Sandeep Chowta is the music director. D Siva Prasad Reddy is producing this movie under Annapurna Studios and the Kamakshi Kala banner. Rummy will be the fourth picture that is being made under the banner of Kamakshi Kala Movies with Nagarjuna as hero after Nenunnanu, Boss and King.

The choice of female lead for this movie has been a bit of a struggle. At first, the producers picked Chitrangada Singh to make her Telugu movie debut in Rummy. Chitrangada, the wife of renowned Indian golfer Jyoti Randhawa, is a model who has acted in TV spots for ICICI bank and Alukkas Jewellery, and even starred in the 2003 Hindi film, Hazaaron Kwaishein Aisi.

However, after much back-and-forth, the producers eventually changed their mind and offered the role to Mamata Mohandas, a more well known actress in Telugu cinema. Mamata, who shared the screen with Nagarjuna in last year’s King, was ecstatic to have received the starring role since she only had a cameo in King. My sources tell me that Chitrangada will play a smaller secondary role.

Shooting for Rummy began on Sept 14th with the first schedule starting in Guntur, then moving onto Nanakramguda. Nagarjuna and the entire cast and crew will be travelling to Goa in October for a 30-day schedule. Not only will Goa serve as a picturesque backdrop, it’s also the location of the only live casino in India: The Casino Goa, which is located on the yacht M.V. Caravela and is harbored in the river Mandovi.

FICUS has acquired the overseas theatrical and home video/dvd rights for this film. Like all of Nagarjuna’s recent movies, Rummy is being planned for release in December as well. Stay tuned for exactly when in December.
